July 23rd – Renton River Days Parade + Fair

Posted on Jul 26, 2011 | 3 Comments

The Renton River Days Festival was a lively and summery kick-off for the North American Meditation Tour. We took place in the very colorful parade that ranged from the local high school “Bye Bye Birdie Production” to a Pirate Float! Music, colorful banners and loud chants, accompanied by the streamers and balloon covering the van, made us a vivid attraction and people cheered us on. At the fair, a photographer came and took some snapshots of the fair-goers sitting quietly and meditating in the midst of the bustling fair. The streets were filled with people, and many members in the crowd gave us enthusiastic thumbs-ups and smiling faces when they saw that a group of youth had come together to support a free meditation class in the local community. A booth was also set up for people to come and try out meditation. From families to groups of teens, the booth continued to filled up throughout the day. In the summer heat, people continued to come to the tent and meditate with us. At one point, our booth/tent was filled with many young people and there was a ‘waitlist’ line outside!

I really like how you all decorated the van. It’s really colorful and festive. The balloons are especially good. It’s nice how you have a cloth backdrop in the booth and extra signs and banners. It gives me ideas for booths & realizations for our next realization event.
